13.04.2018 Psara
Vendredi 13 avril 2018
directement vers Psara, notre but, loin, loin à l’est.
« Glory of Psara » arrive à 22 h.
On aurait pu
faire ça demain.

Early departure at
6:30 am, in very calm weather, and we eat breakfast en route. We see the sun
rising behind the long island facing Lavrion, Makronisi island. We go
south of the island of Evia (or Evvoia) and go directly to Psara, our goal,
far, far to the east. We meet a Danish sailboat and the guy, busy on the phone
barely greet us, yet between Scandinavians ... Quiet for a long time then the wind
increases a little, almost in front. We try to unroll the jib but the angle is
really tight and we re-roll it. At half-past twelve we have already done 38
miles. The wind is stronger now and we can put the jib up again. With a little
engine and the jib we have good speed, 6.6-6.8 knots and even sometimes 7
knots. But to have this good speed, we have changed course and if we continue
like this, we will pass south of Psara. So we take down the jib and continue to
motor with the wind almost in front, but it’s OK, the waves are very small. We
saw only the Danish yacht and two ships, the sea is empty. Lunch, then I take
the first nap. When I get up, Jens announces that there is fog, a thick fog.
Jens takes a nap and I'm in charge. To see well, I am standing with just the
eyes above the sprayhood. I am cold in the eyes. The fog lasts until 7:30 pm.
When Jens gets up, he calls a ship that we identified with Automatic
Identification System (AIS), Obelix, and asks if he sees us on his radar. The
guy answers yes. Jens also found an old fog horn that we take with us in the
cockpit just in case ... It clears up, but night is coming soon. We see Psara
surrounded by thick fog, but no problem, we can see the long illuminated wharf
and the red and green lights of the port entrance. We go to "our"
place and moor Hera II. Long day: It is 9 pm, we sailed 14 hours and 30 minutes
and traveled 90 miles (162 km). We meet with great pleasure Nikos and Athena, the
taverna owners, big hugs, and dinner there. The ferry "Glory of Psara"
arrives at 10 pm. The young Coast Guard, a girl, watches the passengers and
cars coming out of the ferry and, when we are almost ready to go to bed, it is
11 pm, comes and asks us to fill some papers, at 11 pm! We could have done this
tomorrow.
