Après quelques courses nous partons à 11 h 10. Tout va bien, beau temps, mer calme au début puis vagues d’ouest qui restent d’hier. Le moteur marche bien et Jens dit que Hera II va plus vite grâce à la nouvelle hélice. A 2000 tours nous allons à 6,5 nœuds. Nous suivons le chenal marqué par des bouées rouges et des bouées vertes vers le sud, vers le canal de Lefkas. Quand nous sortons de la protection de la presqu’ile de Preveza, les vagues de côté font rouler le bateau. Nous hissons donc le foc et cela stabilise bien, mais même en arrêtant le moteur nous allons trop vite. Le pont à l’entrée du canal ouvre toutes les heures et nous arriverons trop tôt pour l’ouverture à 13 h. Jens veut donc réduire le foc, tire sur l’enrouleur et rien ne se passe. L’enrouleur tourne mais dans le vide. Jens va devant et est obligé de rouler le foc à la main. Nous arrivons au pont tournant à 12 h 55 et le pont ouvre à 13 h. Nous sommes trois voiliers à passer mais les deux autres s’arrêtent à la marina de Lefkas. Nous sortons du canal et c’est plus calme qu’au nord. Jens met le pilote automatique et je descends faire le blog, je le finis en route. Très agréable traversée, un peut de vent du sud avant l’arrivée à Kalamos, joli port que nous avions visité fin octobre 2017. Un seul voilier est dans le port, un Suédois. Nous prenons l’ankerdram, nous reposons un quart d’heure et partons en vélo pour aller voir un village abandonné, Port Leone, au sud de l’ile, soi-disant à 6 km. Mais quels km ! Ça monte et la route est épouvantable. Après quelques km, nous hésitons, continuer ou faire demi-tour. On continue, des purs et durs. Le village a été abandonné après le tremblement de terre de 1953 mais l’église qui a résisté est bien entretenue par les gens de Kalamos. Le retour nous parait plus facile et nous sentons l’écurie. Nous arrivons à Hera II à 20 h, juste avant la nuit. Diner de restes de poulet et après-diner nous piquons du nez tous les deux sur nos livres. Au lit.

After buying a few things we leave at 11:10 am. All is well, good weather, calm sea at first and then waves coming from the west remaining from yesterday. The engine works well and Jens says that Hera II goes faster thanks to the new propeller. At 2000 rpm we make 6.5 knots. We follow the channel marked by red and green buoys to the south, to the Lefkas Canal. When we leave the protection of the Preveza peninsula, the waves are coming from the side and make Hera II roll. So we hoist the jib and it stabilizes well, but even when stopping the engine we go too fast. The bridge at the entrance to the canal opens every hour and we’ll arrive too early for the opening at 1 pm. Jens wants to reduce the jib, pulls on the roller and nothing happens. The roller rotates but doesn’t make the jib rotate. Jens goes in front and is forced to roll the jib by hand. We arrive at the turning bridge at 12:55 and the bridge opens at 13:00. We are three sailboats but the two other ones stop at Lefkas marina. We leave the canal and it is quieter than in the north. Jens puts on the autopilot and I go down to do the blog, I finish it on the way. Very nice crossing, a bit of wind from the south before the arrival in Kalamos, nice port that we visited at the end of October 2017. A single sailboat is in the harbor, a Swede. We take our ankerdram, rest for a quarter of an hour and go by bike to see an abandoned village, Port Leone, south of the island, supposedly at 6 km. But what km! It goes up and the road is terrible. After a few km, we hesitate, to continue or to turn around. We continue, real sporty types. The village was abandoned after the 1953 earthquake but the surviving church is well maintained by the people of Kalamos. The return seems easier and we want to be home before night. We arrive at Hera II at 8 pm just before dark. Dinner of chicken leftovers and after dinner we both fall half asleep on our books. To bed.
